chicagotrain.org is an independent information website about the Chicago 'L', the rapid transit network operated by the Chicago Transit Authority. It is published as a private, non-commercial information project.

Not affiliated with the CTA

This site is not operated by, affiliated with, endorsed by or connected to the Chicago Transit Authority, Ventra, Pace, Metra or the Regional Transportation Authority. "CTA", "Ventra", "Chicago 'L'" and the line names and colours are marks of their respective owners and are used here only to describe the network the site documents.

Where our information comes from

The network data on this site — lines, stations, station order, journey times, frequencies, first and last trains, accessibility — is built from two official sources:

• the CTA GTFS feed published by the Chicago Transit Authority; and
• the City of Chicago open data portal, dataset "CTA — System Information: List of 'L' Stops".

Fares are taken from CTA's published fare chart. Where the two sources disagree, or where a figure cannot be sourced, we say so on the page rather than guess.

Accuracy

We work hard to keep this accurate and we rebuild the data from the official feeds. Even so, a transit network changes daily: works, delays, closures and fare decisions. Nothing here is a substitute for checking CTA before you travel, and we accept no liability for a journey planned on the basis of this site. If you find an error, please tell us.

Station photographs come from Wikimedia Commons and are used under their respective Creative Commons licences (CC BY, CC BY-SA) or are in the public domain. Each photograph credits its author on the image itself and in the caption. Where a photograph is licensed CC BY-SA, the derived image on this site is offered under the same licence. Other photographs are used with the permission of their owner.
